Capital Campaign News
St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church held its Capital Campaign Kick-off Celebration on April 22, 2012. The excitement and enthusiasm from nearly 200 attendees was uplifting. The congregation was led on foot from the church down the sidewalk to the Francis Marion Hotel by a trumpeter leading the way. The cozy event included a string trio and a chicken dinner served in the Carolina Room. A very nice program was presented, including an opening prayer by Pastor Sarah Lang and introductions from Pastor Robert Wallace. There were also three testimonials from one of the youth, a Congregation Council member, and the Congregation Council Chair. The Alleluia (children’s) Choir sang. A brief message was presented from the Campaign Chair, Ross Campbell, along with the big announcement of the amount pledged. Pastor Joseph Bolick closed the program with song and a prayer. People greatly enjoyed the fellowship.St. Matthew’s has already raised more than $3M for a $6.2M capital campaign, and there is still great potential. Restoration of the church sanctuary is greatly needed; including roof replacement, exterior walls & foundation repair, interior floor repair, interior walls & ceiling repair and HVAC & electrical systems repair.
“A wonderful "buzz" filled the room before and after the event” stated Pastor Robert Wallace. People commented on how well organized the event was. Attendees also commented that the event was a “happy” event, had a good “spirit” and that it was “upbeat”. Many people were surprised, and some even shocked, at the amount already pledged.
The excitement of the event truly motivated people to want to make an investment in this endeavor.
